Unofficially, the Ardbeg distillery has been distilling since 1794 - in 1815, the distillery was bought by John McDougall and officially opened under the name Ardbeg. "Ardbeg" comes from Gaelic and translates as "little hill". The distillery is located on the south coast of the whisky region Islay. This towering expression proves unequivocally that age cannot tame the smoky power of Ardbeg. It can, however, produce some of the most complex and majestic flavours ever to emerge from the Ardbeg Distillery. Bottled from incredibly rare casks filled during some of the distillery's darkest days, this is Ardbeg at its most complex, balanced and beguiling. Majestic flavours of smoked cream and earthy campfires are masterfully interwoven with layers of pine and fragrant candle wax. Tasting notes:Colour: Light amber. Nose: Herbal, fruity, smoked cream, peppermint, toffee, notes of fennel, pine resin, earthy campfire, bananas. Palate: Lively, sharp peppery, sherbet lemon sweetness, notes of candied apples, pears, oranges, hints of carbolic soap, tar, creamy toffee, aniseed, chilli pepper. Finish: Long lasting, creamy, toffee, antiseptic flavours.
